I protect families and small businesses by helping them create and implement plans to manage, preserve and transfer their assets. My practice is focused on estate planning, business law, and real estate. My goal is to give my clients the peace of mind that they are protected from whatever risks they face.
In 1995, I graduated from N.C. State University with a B.S. in Natural Resources. I received a Master of Forestry from N.C. State in 1998. After working as a forester for several years, I attended law school at Campbell University. While in law school, I served as Managing Editor of the Campbell Law Review. I graduated from law school in 2005.
For several years my law practice was mostly civil litigation. I have tried about 15 jury trials and many more bench trials. I have settled hundreds of cases. Over the years, I grew tired of helping people fix problems that often could have been prevented. So I shifted my efforts toward helping people plan to prevent problems.
My Martindale-Hubbell Rating is AV-Preeminent and my AVVO rating of 10.0/10.0. I have been selected as one of North Carolina’s Legal Elite in Tax/Estate Planning and have been named to the North Carolina Super Lawyers list in the area of Estate Planning and Probate. I am a member of the N.C. Bar Association, WealthCounsel, ElderCounsel, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the American Agricultural Law Association, the Society of American Foresters, and the Association of Consulting Foresters. I am also a N.C. Registered Forester and a Certified Forester.
I am admitted to practice law in all North Carolina courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. I am also accredited to handle cases before the Veterans Administration.
My wife, Amity, and I have been married since 1995. We have two children. We attend First Baptist Church in Wilson, where I am a deacon. When I am not working, I enjoy surfing, swimming, fishing, and hunting.
